That would depend to which convenience food you are referring. Some need to be cooked or re-heated. Others can be used cold. Anything that reduces your preparation time can be considered a convenience food. For example, Frozen ravioli, jarred sauce, bagged salad, bottled ranch dressing, frozen french bread: Cook ravioli per package directions. Heat sauce and add to ravioli. Thaw and heat the bread. Rinse salad and place in bowls (optional - add tomatoes,etc) and add dressing. Serve & eat. Meal could be ready in the time it takes to boil the water for the ravioli and you didn't have to make the dough for the ravioli, or the filling, or make the sauce or bread from scratch, or create the salad dressing.
Because it is way past the expiration date, and went bad.
Both are delicious when enjoyed with butter sauce.
