Except for the dwarf planet Ceres (largest of the asteroids), there is no real planet between Mars and Jupiter, Instead, there is a wide, sparsely populated belt of asteroids. This is referred to as the "Main Belt".

It was once speculated that a planet did exist between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, based on the distances of the known planets from the Sun. Many of the early astronomers viewed the asteroid belt as the remains of a planet that was destroyed by a devastating impact with another stellar object.

However, the current theory is that no planet ever formed there due to gravitational interactions between the Sun and Jupiter. These could have stopped the accretion process from actually allowing the planetesimals to "gel" together. The mass of the belt is relatively low, suggesting that much of the original mass there has been dispersed.
