In popular tradition- for The Bible is silent on this matter, they have been given the names of Caspar ( or Gaspard), Melchior ( often prounounced Mell-Choir) which suggests music) and Balshazzar or Balthazzar. Middle East tongues do not easily transliterate into modern English, so there is some confusion in spelling. They are not identified as Kings in the Bible, nor is the number set at Three.

Gaspar, Balthasar, and Melchior.

This above explanation is from Medieval times.

The original Nativity story was played out in the night sky where the Three Kings (stars in Orion's Belt) follow the star in the east (Sirius) to the birth of the (sun) on the horizon. This alignment of the stars and rising sun occurs annually around December 21st-25th in the relative latitude of Egypt. Although there is no reference to 3 kings, wise men, magi, etc. in the Bible or original Egyptian hieroglyphics, the exact mimicry in position and size (to brightness) of the three Kings' pyramids in Giza to the Three Kings in Orion's Belt is the most significant connection to the modern story. Therefore, to put names of actual people inserted into the story would most likely have been Kings Khufu, Kafhre and Menkaura of Giza.

The bible only says that they were kings. It doesn't state their names or even how many of them there were, except that they were from the east. Because three gifts are stated, it is generally assumed there were three kings, and there are church traditions that go into more depth concerning them. However, the Bible does not explore them further.
