Moon jellyfish are found throughout most of the world's oceans, from the tropics to as far north as 70° latitude and as far south as 40°. Staying near the surface, they prefer to live in protected waters, such as inlets, bays and harbors, but can also be found in open ocean waters in temperatures ranging from 42° F to 88° F, as well as in waters with a salinity as low as 1/5 of normal ocean water.
They eat organisms such as mollusks, crustaceans, tunicate larvae, rotifers, young polychaetes, protozoans, diatoms, eggs, fish eggs, and other small organisms. Occasionally, they will also eat hydrozoa and ctenophora jellies.
Moon jellies also like long moonlight swims along the beach, AC/DC music, and their favorite drink is sea foam. [Or not.]
