If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be changing the oil yourself.

Step 1: Read the Operator's manual or go out and buy one and then read it.

Step 2: The specifications in the manual should tell you an exact amount of oil for your mower because every lawn mower is different. The manual should also explain how to change the oil right the first time.

Should be between 1 and 1.5 quarts. More: After 3/4 of the first quart, add oil a little at a time and check the oil level frequently. The correct oil level is between the hatch marks on the dip-stick - you don't want to overfill.
