The term Griffe was invented by the Spaniards
(long before the antebellum chattel slavery
era had even occurred in the United States).
A Griffe is a Mixed-Race individual who is the offspring of
one parent who is of Black/White (or Black/Amerindian)
Biracial lineage and one parent who is of Black lineage.
Thus, people that are Griffe have 3 Black grandparents and
1 White (or 1 Amerindian) grandparent and, as a result, their
ancestral lineage is 3/4 Black and 1/4 White (or 1/4 Amerindian).
