Coke has always been brown. Caramel was originally used for coloring, and though the (secret) formula has changed over the years, caramel, which imparts the brown color we know, is still used to give the cola its appearance.

There is currently an urban legend stating Coca-Cola's color was originally green, and this is incorrect. The company at one time used green bottles, and thus the idea was started. The product has always had its standard brown color.
Not green...probably brown.

Before the Coca-Cola ads ''popularized'' red as the color of Santa's suit, he was often depicted in green, though also in red, brown, and white. Green was the traditional color of the British Father Christmas. (Remember the Spirit of Christmas Present in ''A Christmas Carol?") Also, green, as in evergreens, was traditionally associated with the winter solstice season.

Though some think Coca-cola started or created the red suit, they did not; they just made it popular. Technically, the paintings of Haddon Sundblom made the red suit popular. He was the artist who painted Santa Claus for Coca-cola, and his image of Santa Claus in the red suit gained popularity.

No, it is a popular misconception. Santa's modern image as a red-suited man with a beard, had already been well-established by the time Coca-Cola commissioned a series of advertisements featuring him, in 1931. Such images can be seen on christmas cards, and in newspapers, some dating back to the start of the century.

However, one could argue that Coca-Cola may have helped cement this image in people's minds.

it was actually green, because of the food dye (brownish) it now appears brownish. The chemicals carbon dioxide and the sugar in liquid that isn't h20 makes green color.
