A habitat provides an organism with food, shelter, and water.
What do living things need? A place to live that provides for all the organism's needs. Raw materials, like water, proteins, fats, and sugars.
The place where an organism lives is its habitat. Its habitat provides everything it needs to survive. That includes an energy source (for plants that would be adequate sunlight, for an animal that would be the animal's specific food source), water, a place to shelter, if the organism requires that, etc. As humans encroach on natural habitats all over the world, we destroy them and in the process kill off many of the organisms that rely on those habitats.
