What is the population of Paris? In: Paris Travel |
[Edit] |
Answer
The population of Paris proper is about 2.2 million people. The city, overall, is the 22nd largest in the world and the third largest in Europe (only London and Moscow are larger). However, the population of the metropolitan area is closer to 11 million people. Even though Paris is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, approximately 80% of its residents live in the suburbs. Because the city of Paris is very expensive to live in, many middle and lower class residents cannot afford to live within the city limits. Ironically, only those residents who live in the city proper are actually considered Parisians. Residents of Paris’s suburbs are Banlieusards and residents of the entire Paris metropolitan region are Franciliens.
