What is the position L for in an automatic 4 speed transmission? |
Answer
the letter "L" stands for "Low". normally low wouldn't be used but it would be used to maintain high engine rpm at low vehicle speed
The "L" stands for Low Gear and it should only be used below 5 to 8 mph for things like going very slowly up an icy hill or a bad traction situation. In normal driving, just keep the vehicle in D and the transmission will shift as needed. Otherwise, bad things can happen to your transmission........
