Beef cattle are generally sold at Sale barns, the farmer will raise them until they become stockers (which are weaned calves fed high-roughage diets). Meat buyers will then purchase them, placing them in feedlots for further feeding, then they are taken to the slaughter house.

This depends on weight, type, breed/colouration, sex, and location of markets. Each market/salebarn/auction mart has different prices for each location. So if you know your location, find a salebarn that is local to you and found out this week's or last week's cattle prices.

Note: prices vary from week to week and never stay the same throughout the month nor the year. Checking once a week is the best way to know the cattle prices for your area.

I think anywhere between a few hundred to a few thousand, depending on size, health, breed, location, etc...
