No cat lover would doubt that cats - whose senses are much keener than ours - suffer pain. They may, however, hide it better. Not only are they proud, they instinctively know that they are at risk when in a weakened position, and by nature will attempt to hide it. But make no mistake. This is not a surgery to be taken lightly.

Your cat's body is perfectly designed to give it the grace, agility and beauty that is unique to felines. Its claws are an important part of this design. Amputating the important part of their anatomy that contains the claws drastically alters the conformation of their feet. The cat is also deprived of its primary means of defense, leaving it prey to predators if it ever escapes to the outdoors.

Declawing is mutilation. It's the same as having the first joint of your fingers cut off. It is not just removing nails, as a cat's nails are attached to its last toe joints.

About 100 per cat + special litter for about 2 weeks afterwars and a possible check up appointment afterwords if there are problems.

Another Answer

Declawing a cat is a highly controversial procedure, and more and more veterinarians do not offer the service. The veterinarians that still allow it consider declawing a "routine" surgery, while cat advocates consider it cruel, inhumane, and unnecessary in almost every case. Many countries around the world as well as some states in the United States have banned this procedure as it is unnecessary and inhumane.

If you know you want to declaw your cat, ask about the true facts about this procedure and the common side-effects on the cat (inappropriate toileting, biting, becoming overly nervous or aggressive, etc.), and what safer alternatives there are, such as buying cat activity centers, scratching mats and posts, training the cat to only scratch desirable surfaces, or even using caps called Soft Paws that slip onto a cat's claws.

I called my local vet to ask and it sounds like that is not a common practice. The only thing they were willing to consider is the removal of the duclaw which is that thumb-like claw on the front paws. For that they couldn't even give an estimate without a visit because of something to do with whether the duclaw is connected to the bone. I did get the price to declaw a cat's front paws which was $384 including all pain meds and other care needs relating to the procedure. Sounds like a good claw trimmer is the best solution. But perhaps other vets would be willing to do the procedure. But I can only imagine the cost.

Declawing a cat is a controversial procedure, as it is effectively the same as cutting their fingers off, prevents them from finding their own food if they happen to stray, and additionally, many declawed cats become psychotic as they age, and start biting. If you can find a vet who will declaw a cat for you, expect to pay about $300 for the procedure. Alternatives, such as providing scratching posts at their favorite scratching spots, are cheaper and far more humane.

Spaying can vary in cost, typically running from a little over a hundred dollars (US) to about two hundred, depending on where you live. When you adopt a kitten from the Humane Society, often you will get a certificate good for a spay or neuter.

Declawing is a very controversial operation, as cats use their claws for more than scratching; they serve also as fingers, extending and enhancing the cat's grip on its environment. A cat who has been declawed uses its teeth for that function, and quite often will become psychotic, biting people. It is recommended that instead of declawing a cat, you provide a scratching post of some sort near the doorways to your house; the cat will use those, often, to mark his territory by scratching at the gateposts.

If you are certain you want to declaw your cat, expect to pay about four to five hundred dollars.

Can show cats be declawed?

Many cat shows do not permit declawed cats, and most, if not all, will not allow a pedigree breed that has been declawed to show. The Cat Fanciers' Association states that ALL cats, whether pedigree or Household cats, may NOT be declawed. All other cat shows associated with the CFA abide by these same rules. Naturally, in countries where declawing is banned, do not allow any declawed cats. The International Cat Association, however, do accept cats that have had their claws removed. This is one in a minority of cat associations that allow this.

Do house cats cover their poop when let out or dogs do it too?

Usually it is declawed cats who won't cover their waste because they don't like to dig much after they are declawed. It is also painful to a cat to declaw it. If your cat is not declawed, then maybe it was separated from it's mom at too young of an age to have learned to cover it's waste from her, or maybe the cat had a declawed mom.

Are calico cats good outside cats?

Yes, some are and some are not. Depends on your cats personality or however you spell it. Also it depends on whether they are declawed or not.

How much will it cost to get a cat declawed at kolehmainen veterinary clinic?

As each veterinary clinic has its own fee structure, the only way to answer this question is to ask the clinic directly. If they are any good, they will, however, strongly advise against declawing a cat, which is for most cats equivalent to cutting off their fingers.
