It is a global economy, has been for a while now. The Big Three assumed Americans would always buy their products. Mainly, they are not cost competitive compared to the Japanese because of labor costs. The unions helped this country 80 years ago, but have now been the biggest hinderance. the average UAW worker building GM cars makes $31 an hour. With very little if any skill level. Tack on their benifits, it amounts to $72 an hour. Compare that to Honda's labor expence at $45 an hour per employee.
