Keratinization starts when protein in the form of food is digested and the body breaks it down into amino acids. These enter the blood stream and are carried to the papilla and the matrix at the base of the follicle where cells are formed that will eventually create hair.
Keratinization begins in the innermost layer of the epidermis. Keratinization is the maturation and migration of skin cells. This is where Keratin, a fibrous protein responsible for protective properties of the dermis, is produced.
Keratinization begins in the stratum basale, the deepest layer of the epidermis. Basal keratinocyte cells are the stem cells of the epidermis.
In the layer called as- Stratum corneum
the dermis layer
no bone cells provide protection and support
Stratified squamous epithelium has many layers of flattened cells and function in protection. There are two types: non-keratinized: found in the lining of the mouth, the throat, the vagina, and the anus. The second type is keratinized and is found as the epidermis of the skin.
the keratinized tissue is found in the masticatory mucosa, which includes the hard palate, the gingiva, the dorsum of the tongue and the outer part of the lips.
The cells of epidermis layer divide and grow, the older cells of this layer are pushed away from the dermis toward the skin surface. Basically, the epidermis cells come from the dermis by being pushed to the skin's surface. Why is it an advantage to have dead cells on the surface of the body? Why is it an advantage to have dead cells on the surface of the body?
no bone cells provide protection and support
the whole process by which cells form in the stratum basale, rise to the surface , become keratinized and slough off takes about 4 weeks in a average epidermis
The upper layer of skin i.e. Epidermis is composed of dead Keratinized epithelium cells.
I believe it is produce by scalpition but I am not sure if that is the right answer if any one has a better answer put it down. Hair is composed of keratinized dead cells that have been pushed to the surface.
The stratum cornium has keratinized cells.
Well when the matrix cells above the dermal papilla in the hair follicle become hair cells it is called "differentiation." They then become keratinized and are pushed up. Hope this helps.
This is called the nail matrix.

Nails are made up of layers/plates of keratinized epithelial cells.
Snails do not have a protective layer of dead keratinized cells over their body like we do. So once they come into contact with the salt they become dehydrated and die. For example, we would not die if our skin came into contact with salt. But if we drank large amounts of salt water, we would dehydrate because there isn't a layer of dead keratinized cells lining the inside of our bodies.
