This depends on the culture of the family. In true Hispanic families, the godparents pay for any costs to the church, the child's bible, candle, medallion, and baptismal gown/bonnet/shoes, etc. and pay for all or partial costs of a luncheon or dinner party afterwards. Non-Hispanic families usually just pay for the gown, candle, etc. but not "a party" afterwards, even though it is pure etiquette to offer to contribute something towards the celebration such as a cake. Catholic/Christian shops in town are very knowledgeable as to exactly what to buy.

There are a few choices when it comes to giving a gift to an adult who is being baptized. Some, such as a cross necklace or an inscribed Bible, are more traditional. Others, such as a framed picture of the baptism, the certificate of baptism set in a nice frame or a piece of artwork depicting a baptism are not quite so traditional but are also very nice ideas.

In our diocese it is usual to offer a free will donation to the church, not to the priest. Amount varies from 0 to $100 and in general $50 is typical.

For private baptisms or if the priest has to travel to perform the ceremony, a gift is optional but a gift card, gift certificate, or cash/check in the amount of $50 or higher is typical.

Some parishes may have specific guidelines about this.

Great gifts for a baptism are a disposable camera, or a small bottle to keep some of the baptismal water. You may also want to consider a savings bond, or other cash gift.

What gifts of grace are received at baptism?

It is the gift of the holy spirit.Roman Catholic Answer:By baptism a child or adult is united to the visible body of the church and so remains until he performs any act which involves his exclusion therefrom (adherence to a non-Catholic body). Baptism by water, blood, or desire is necessary to salvation. The grace thus imparted is that a human being is spiritually regenerated and made capable of receiving the other sacraments. It imprints a "character" on the soul and admits the recipient to membership in the Catholic Church of Christ. From A Catholic Dictionary, 2nd edition, revised, edited by Donald Attwater

What is best thing you like to be Catholic?

The love of God, and the incredible gift that He has given us in his sacraments, which are there for our salvation and eventual union with Him in heaven; particularly the unbelievable gift of His very own Body and Blood in the most Blessed Sacrament, not to mention the forgiveness of our sins in baptism and confession.
