I like to place the bed pan under them while they are lying flat then put them in a semiFowler's unless contraindicated. Some people find it hard to void or have a BM on their back. Make sure they don't slide down.

∙ 13y agoMake sure the person is lying flat on their back. Tell them to cross both arms over their chest, then log-roll the person to the most comfortable side for that person.
Position the bedpan in the middle of the person's buttocks and hold it in place while you help roll them back onto the bedpan.
If they have a bed that can be put in a reclining stage, now you can raise them up to a comfortable sitting position. Then give them some privacy. give the patient toilet paper and wipes and instruct thme to call when they are finish. (instruct women to wipe from front t back to avoid infections)
