If using the Harvard system the year of publication should be placed in brackets immediately after the author's initials: Doe, J. L. (1990) A Brief ... With either system, it is useful to add the date of the 1st ed. if you have used another, so: (First published in 1988). This should come right at the end after the ISBN.
