Best Answer

The pro of democracy is that the will of the people rules, and the people control the government. A single monarch or dictator cannot ignore the desires of the people or act in his/her own best interest instead of in the interest of the people.

The con is that the majority of people may be able to ignore the interests of the minority, as majority rules. (Think of mob mentality.) Democracy can also move slowly and be splintered, and is subject to back and forth motions as people change their minds. The people are also often not educated and informed on all issues, and lack the expertise to make complex decisions.

In a true democracy, all decisions are made by vote and no leaders have authority to make decisions without the people. While this worked well in small towns historically, it is impractical for a nation. This is why modern democracies have adopted the representative democracy model, in which the people elect leaders to make decisions for them. While this takes the best of both worlds, it also creates its fair share of complications.
