In the automotive context, the shroud assists in channeling the airflow created by the fan, therefore increasing it's cooling potential. It works on the same principle as a wind tunnel. Dr. Raspet studied ways to improve the STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aspects of aircraft at Mississippi State University in 1960's. He took a standard aircraft and made small changes to reduce drag. For some pusher aircraft (engines and propellor mounted in rear), he added a shroud around the propellor. This increases the efficiency of the propellor, thereby developing more thrust for given engine speed, thereby increasing fuel consumption.
Could be several possibilities, low on refrigerant, poor air circulation through condenser/radiator, faulty fan clutch, auxiliary fan not operating, missing or damaged fan shroud,
The pulleys sometimes separate and need replacing. There should be a schematic on the fan shroud.
It sould be on the iformation sticker on the fan shroud.
Nothing should happen at all if it just slips. If it comes off it could possibly bend some of the fins but it is unlikely since there is a fan and shroud in the way.

To direct the air flow through the radiator.
How do you remove the fan shroud on a 2004 get envoy
At least half.
The 2000 Chevy Cavalier cooling fan shroud is held in place with 10 retaining bolts. Remove the retaining bolts and the cooling fan shroud will come off.
a generator is the same diameter all the way to the fan shroud and usually has a voltage regulator fastened to the fan shroud where a alternator is bigger where the pulley goes than where it goes into the fan shroud
funny thing mine inst even on after i changed the water pump, u will have to remove the fan then lower the shroud and fan at the same time and put ur 4 bolts back into the shroud.
To remove the fan shroud from the 1999 Ford F150 you need a user manual to guide you.
If it has a properly fitted fan shroud, it doesn't matter how close the fan blades are to the radiator. If there is no fan shroud the fan blades will have to be within a couple of inches of the radiator.
The Haynes manual wants you to remove the fan and the shroud as a unit. This requires disconnecting the electrical connections to the fan, removing the bolts that hold the fan/shroud to the car, and just slipping the shroud off it's mounting tabs and removing. NOTE; that Haynes recommends removing the negative battery cable before starting the job. FriPilot
The radiator shroud.
do you have to remove fan shroud to access thermostat housing on a 1997 2.3L ford ranger
All cars should have a fan shroud as it helps direct the air more efficiently across the radiator.
