"The quantum mechanical model of the atom" is a pretty vague phrase, but basically it can be thought of as the set of solutions to the Schroedinger equation HΨ = EΨ . (Yeah, that looks like the world's stupidest equation with solution H = E, but what's important to understand is that H isn't a variable or number, it's an operator. That means we don't get a single E for all Ψ, we get a collection of Es each corresponding to a different function Ψ.)

The Quantum atomic model is the most recent model of the atom. it's based on quantum mechanics (mathematical solutions of theoretical equations) quantum numbers are quantum solutions to quantum equations and are used to find the probable position and location of an electron in an atom. the first Principal quantum number identifies which energy level an electron is in. There are 7 possible energy levels in an atom in the ground state (stable) the azimuthal quantum number identifies the sub-level with in the energy level where the electron is most likely to be found. there are 4 types of sub-levels possible in each energy level and even more specific, the magnetic quantum number indicates a region within a sub-level called an orbital where two electrons reside. The number of orbitals in a sub-level depends on the type of sub-level. To distinguish between the two electrons in an orbital, the electron-spin quantum number is used. there's two possible electron-spin quantum numbers, 1/2+ and 1/2- .

The quantum mechanical model of the atom is a rather complex model which is based on probability, not certain, when it comes to location of electrons, etc. It views electrons as both particles AND waves, and uses rather sophisticated mathematics to make predictions about the behavior.
