What is the real essence of family values? |

Answer
The real essence or family values lies in teaching and practicing the Golden Rule. It does not reside in the smug belief that you are a Christian or Jew or whatever, and that is all that needs to be said about the matter. Family values are values which apply to the world-at-large, not merely the world that promotes individual or political or family interests. Family values do not teach resentment, hate, or prejudice against those who do not subscribe to your own religion or the values derived therefrom. Family values teach respect and an open mind, without being relativistic. Family values promote independent thinking, encourage the questioning of every single value ever learned by each member of the family, and discourage the hubris and complacency that most religious sects encourage. Family values do not promote financial success above the success of being a decent and beneficial contributor to society.
Family values have nothing to do with political parties or affiliations.
