As a hiring manager for more than 11 years, I've seen a lot of those. The honest answer is probably "money!", but that's not what employers like to see. Employers want to hire people who are passionate about their industry or the company. They are really asking, "Why do you want to work in this industry or for this company?" Good answers would be: I want to be an Auto mechanic because I enjoy working on cars. I want to be in the hotel business because I enjoy being around people. Or I want to work for the Irish Plumbers because I've heard you are the best in the business.

This is ALWAYS a loaded question on application forms ! The manager or recruitment officer wants to know your reasons for applying for the job. NEVER put "...because I need the money..." That is NOT a valid reason (and would certainly get your application refused !

You need to 'sell yourself' - put forward positive things about you.. "...because the tasks I performed in my last job will transfer to this post, reducing the need for further training..."

If the job is some distance from where you live "...because I'm looking for a change of scenery, and your post will give me the incentive to re-locate..."

Just that - why do you want to work there. Everyone needs to work for money - but why are you applying at that place over the place next door? Is it a customer service job and you like working with people? Is the company in the field you want and you respect the charity work they participate in? There is a reason you want to work there - if not, don't bother.
