I believe one of the relationships between x and y in a non-linear graph will be the slope of each point will be unproportional. Therefore, it will create a non-straight line (usually a curved line) on the graph. If it's a linear graph, the slope is proportional and the line will be straight. If anyone thinks this is not "straight to the point", please feel free to correct this.

{Added}. You are correct! The non-linear trace is curved. Linear means the trace is a straight line, produced when the y values are controlled by straightforwardly multiplying each x value by a constant which can be any number (except of course, 0).

A non-linear graph is one in which the y ordinates are controlled by x^N where N is not equal to 1, by a trigonometrical or logarithmic function of x; or in the particular case of the Hyperbola, the reciprocals of the x values.

What happens though in y = x^N when N does = 0? I'll leave it to you to spot the result - you don't need to calculate or plot it to realise the answer!

What is a non linear realtionship?

A nonlinear relationship is one that cannot be expressed using a line. y=3x is a linear relationship between x and y. y = log(x) is nonlinear.

Is X squared plus y squared an example of nonlinear?

No, it is not an example of a nonlinear relationship because there is a steady rate of change.

A graph of charles's law shows the relationship between?

A graph of Charles' Law shows the relationship between Volume vs. Temperature. Volume is placed on the y axis and temperature on the x axis. The relationship is linear if temperature is in units of Kelvin.

What kind of graph is the most useful for showing the relationship between two?

Line Graph

What does the slope of a straight line graph tell you?

It tells you the relationship between the X value and the Y value is constant.

What is a type of graph used to show the relationship between two variables that are numbers on the x-axis and the y-axis?

bar graph It's actually line graph. (I just learned this at school.)

How do you graph nonlinear equations?

Select a number of different values for the independent variable (usually x). For each x, calculate the value of the dependent variable using the nonlinear equation. Call these f(x). On a Cartesian plane, mark the points whose coordinates are(x,f(x)) and join them by a smooth curve.

What is a straight line graph show time on y-axis and distance on x-axis?

the relationship between two variables

When there is a straight line on a graph what type of relationship there is between the dependent variable and the independent variable?

It depends on the slope ofthe linear graph. if y=x then the relationship is 1:1 if y=3x then the relationship is 3:1 if y=2/7x then the relationship is 2:7

What happens when there is an inverse relationship between x and y?

x goes up by 1,2,3,4, etc. and y goes up at a steady rate in the graph its a stright line

What is a nonlinear relationship?

In mathematics, when the dependent variable is not proportional to the independent variable. The function does not vary directly with the input. Example: y=sin (x).

What is a correlation coefficient of 0.0731?

This means there is no correlation between the points on a graph. There is no linear relationship between the x and the y values at all. 0.98 is usually deemed to be an acceptable r2 value
