You can be any age. But if you are younger than 18, you have to have a parent or legal guardian to sign for it.

In the UK it is 18 regardless of parental consent. If a tattoo artist is found to have tattooed a minor s/he may be charged under 'assaulting a minor' and worse case scenario s/he will be placed on the register for offences against children
It depends. In most places it's normally 18, however in some it's 16 and in others it could be 21!

The laws vary from state to state. In most states you will need to be 18, but there are states that will allow them with parental permission at a younger age. It usually means the parent has to be present. Each country will have different laws. They do this because tattoos look really silly on you when you hit 45 or 50. Before you get a tattoo, pictue what it would look like on your grandmother first...

Old enough to have had enough experience as an apprentice

In my city the tattoo artist Bruce Harms lives. He was a permitted tattoo artist working in a shop at the age of 17. In North Carolina the minimum age to get tattooed is 18. He had applied many tattoos to paying customers before he was legally entitled to get one of his own.

To get a tattoo you must be 18 or older with a valid form of identification. If under the age of 18 you must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver at the tattoo shop giving them permission to tattoo you and in most cases the parent or guardian must stay at the tattoo shop while getting tattooed.

In some states in USA, the age can be as low as 16 with parental permission.

However, this is generally frowned upon as young bodies are still growing and changing.

In the UK, the age is 18, regardless of parental permission. To be tattooed under this age is assault on a minor and if found tattooing a young person under 16, it is highly likely you can be placed on the Child Protection Register, this is a lifelong thing
