What is the setting of Ishmael Beah and memoir A Long Way Gone?
In chpt 21, the rebels join forces with the army and they take over the city of freetown (where Ishmael is currently living with uncle Tommy). Uncle Tommy gets sick, but no do…ctor will come help him because everybody is too scared to leave their houses in fear of getting killed by the rebels. So he dies from sickness.
It started off like this: My Highschool friends have begun to suspect I haven't told them the full story of my life. "Why did you leave Sierra Leone?" …"Because there is a war." "Did you witness some of the fighting?" "Everyone in the country did." "You mean you saw people running around with guns and shooting each other?" "Yes, all the time." "Cool." I smile a little. "You should tell us about it sometime." "Yes, sometime." And that is the prologue. He starts off in New York at like age 17 or something (for the prologue) but when you read the first couple of pages he's 12 years old and in Sierra leone.
Memoirs often show a change in feelings between the past and present.

In Ishmael by Daniel Quinn what does the poster With man gone will there be hope for gorilla With gorilla gone will there be hope for man?
It has been some time since I have read this book but I'll try my best to answer. The statement means that, because of the Taker societies that engulf the world, there seems… to be little hope for many other animals to continue to survive. This includes the gorilla. The first part of this statement reflects on that particular fact. With man (Takers) gone, will there be hope for gorillas (and other animals) to survive? The second part reflects the the thought that, if gorillas are gone (extinct), then humans are probably not far from extinction since we will have destroyed our environment to the point of no return. This question really gets at one of the central ideas of Quinn's work. The point that we are continually at war with nature. The lunacy in this is that we are a part of nature and any war against it is a war against ourselves. I may be wrong W.T. Hill
Autobiography usually covers a longer period of time.
Ishmael is the son of Abraham and Hagar, Sarah's maidservant. He also had to live in a desert with his mother because Sarah didn't want them to be with them especially after s…he just conceived her own son, Isaac.
Esther is a nurse at the rehabilition center. Ishmael developed a friendship with her. Ishmael tells parts of his war stories and dreams to Esther. Esther gave Ishmael a walkm…an with a Bob Marley cassette but made him keep it there so he would come back for his regular check-ups. They work on the mental health of Ishmael during his time being rehabilitated at Benin Home.
Leslie is a field-worker for Children Associated with War (CAW). He's the one that located Ishmael's uncle.
Memoirs should be about your personal experiences and memories of yours. Usually, memoirs are nonfiction and tell about your life personally. You can start out by giving a sim…ple fact about yourself- I'm one of those people who is prepared for everything. I have my whole life planned out for the next 10 years. Something like that can be good. You can also start out with something about your family- As my dad always says...- or- My grandma has been knitting since the age of 10. I never really realized her passion for knitting until... You can also jump right into the action- "Cindy, time to get up," my mother had called early this morning. I didn't want to arise at the time, but if I had known what was in store for me, I would have jumped out of bed. You can also begin with something simple like- Hi, my name is Steve and these are my memoirs. Family memories, like parties you've hosted or something can also lead into your memoirs. With memoirs, the introduction doesn't matter as much as the content. Keep that in mind! Hope this helps!
Well, I was taught that a memoir is a specific part of your life. It is not an autobiography. A memoir focuses more on one specific event. :)
Memoirs focus on emotions and memories.
They follow a story like structure. ---Anasaccessories
