What is the signifigance of 601 in The Andromeda Strain?

This is probably an interesting reference to a passage in the Bible. Since the message is assumed to be a generic memory overload output message, the scientists, notably Dr. Stone, dismiss the result of the growth model as a computer anomaly. However, as the movie ends, the viewers are shown the growth simulation model again, at greater magnification than had been previously seen. It results in the same output message, "601".

If we look at either Genesis Chapter Six, or Revelations Chapter Six, we get passages that speak very clearly about an apocalyptic type scenario arising from the evil that humans have cultivated within themselves.
