Broken homes are usually the result of the breakdown of the family as a single unit. With relaxed laws (no fault) for divorces, women working outside of the home and a diminished belief in things spiritual and moral, society is experiencing decay in general.

There is no one solution for what you call "broken families". First, young men and women need to be taught how to avoid pregnancy until they have learned the skills required to raise an intact and healthy family, one that thrives because it has a stable foundation.

Next, give families the supports and resources that help keep families together and address the social problems that tear them apart. Loss of jobs, poverty, inflation, unaffordable medical costs, high cost of housing, lack of higher education or job skills, living under hopeless conditions- are only some of the difficulties that cause stress in families, stress that leads to depression, domestic abuse, turmoil, poverty, divorce and disinterest in marriage. Economic instability leads to generations of "broken families".

In those cases where a break up is unavoidable or a family unit was never formed in the first place we need to reduce the Birth Rate and provide the supports that keep the family healthy in spite of the situation. We need to stop referring to those families as "broken" and take steps toward reducing the numbers. Most single parent families have mothers as heads of the households and they live on the edge of poverty. Offer those women something better and maybe they will wait to have families. Unfortunately, we have allowed the problems to grow and only a monumental effort fueled by new ideas and dedication will turn the situation around.
