The primary consideration when hanging a shower curtain is to keep the water in the shower. If you have a shower tub, you want to make sure the curtain can fit inside the tub without folding over at the bottom. The only exception to the above measurements would be if the shower tub is raised off of the floor. You would then need to make adjustments accordingly.
