This depends on the area of Germany you're in and if you want fast food or homestyle.

In the southern part of Germany (Bavaria), pretzels and beer are a common food combination whereas the Northwestern area (Rheinlands) eat more the Potato pancakes with applesauce.

As far as fast food is concerned in Germany, the popular favorites are Currywurst und Pommes (Currysausage and Fries) and Döner, a food similar to the Gyro that comes for Turkey. There are also American fast food restaraunts in Germany on every corner, like KFC, McDonald's, Subway, and Burger King, but the menu is a little different than that of America.

Homestyle traditional German food includes Salzkartoffeln (boiled potatoes), schnitzel (breaded meat patties), sauerkraut, spätzle (Bavarian egg noodle), and Eisbein (meat cooked in a layer of fat and then the meat is eaten). Contrary to the prejudice, not many Germans even like sauerkraut but it's still a traditional German food. Germans are most likely to eat bread and cheese on a daily basis. Germans generally only eat one hot meal a day, preferably lunch. Breakfast is often cereal and dinner is bread with assorted gourmet cheeses and cold sausages. Above all, Germans love bakery goods and they're dirt cheap and delicious in Germany. Bakers are everywhere and many families buy fresh bread almost every day.
