Crescent & Star! That is not the symbol of Islam! The Crescent represents The Holy Month of Ramadan & the star represents the direction of the Kabaa. But none are symbols of Islam only symbols of month & direction.
Actually the real symbol of Islam is divided by two:
1)ALLAH: This word represents the name of god & a symbol reminding people of god.
2)LA ILLAHA ILLA ALLAH: A symbol that reminds people the unity of god Used in The Saudi Flag.
Both symbols are not used as symbols but used as words because they are words.
