The swallow also represents love, care and affection towards family and friends, showing the loyalty of the person always returning to them.

Today, the symbol of the swallow can mean many different things. It is considered a staple of the "British Traditional" and "Sailor Jerry Collins" style tattooing.

Ex-Sailors of the British Royal Navy have a swallow tattoo on both hands above the thumbs as a symbol of a successful voyage.

to me it is a symbol of mother god. i asked her to send me them as a sign like "here i am!" sort of to jog my memory that she is there for me... i see more of them now than i ever have in my life.but to other ppl im sure its a symbol of freedom and plus theyre a rather aggressive beautiful colored bird.The blue jay tatto can mean aryan brotherhood as well.

when my uncle died, we got a poem at the wake that explained he was like a blue butterfly that flew into the beautiful blue sky and became one with it. and although we could no longer see him, that didn't mean he was no longer with us... i took this symbolism pretty seriously and am getting a tattoo of a blue butterfly with the words "although i can't see you... that doesn't mean you're not here".
