The Virgin Islands are part of the North American Numbering Plan, telephone country code +1, along with the USA, Canada, and some other islands.

The U.S. Virgin Islands use area code +1 340. Calls from the US mainland to the USVI are "one plus" domestic calls, but may or may not be included in "nationwide" calling plans. Check with your long-distance company.

The British Virgin Islands use area code +1 284 (284 = BVI on the telephone dial). Calls from the US or Canada are "one plus," but will be charged at international rates.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

The US Virgin Islands are part of the North American Numbering Plan, telephone country code +1, area code +1 340.

Calls from other locations in the NANP, including the USA, Canada, and some other islands, are dialed as "one plus." Calls from the US mainland are domestic calls, but may or may not be included in "nationwide" calling plans. Check with your long-distance company. Charges to call the USVI from other NANP countries, including Canada, may be higher than charges to call the US mainland.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.).

The U.S. Virgin Islands are area code 340. The British Virgin Islands are area code 284. Dial 1 + area + number, just like you would for a call to another U.S. state. Calls from the U.S. to the USVI are domestic calls, but calls to the BVI will be billed at international rates.
