You are correct to a point. What you describe may on some vehicles reset the light but I answer questions to provide not only an answer but an answer that is best for a novice. An expert would not ask the question in the first place so I know this question was asked by a novice. I want the novice to not just reset the light but to have the ECU scanned to see what is wrong and have it repaired before possible damage is done to the catalytic converter or the O2 sensors.
