Here are a few treatments for Chlamydia: Amoxicillin, Zithromax and Erythromycin are common forms of antibiotics used to treat Chlamydia. Your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic and be sure to follow the directions exactly. You need to take a certain amount of the antibiotic at the same time to ensure that the bacteria is killed and the infection is gone.

Recommended antibiotics for treatment of chlamydia during pregnancy are azithromycin 1 g or amoxicillin 500 mg three times daily for seven days. A woman treated during pregnancy should be retested in one month, and in the third trimester, as well as anytime she has a new partner.

Since both of these are bacterial, antibiotics will cure them both (but usually different antibiotics for each infection). Typical treatment is 250 mg injection of Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for gonorrhea and 1g of Zithromax (azithromycin) for chlamydia. It is possible to treat both with a single 2g dose of azithromycin, but vomiting after this treatment is a problem.

There are a number of commonly-used antibiotics. The CDC recommends the use of doxycycline or azithromycin as first-line treatments. Oflaxacin, Levofloxacin, and Erythromycin can also be used.. Erythromycin may cause discomfort in the stomach, and so is less widely used. Levofloxacin and oflaxacin are more expensive, and don't work better than the other choices. There are two ways to take the drugs: one or more pills a day, and a one-time treatment, which is a little more expensive, but more reliable for those that have trouble remembering to take pills.

With the antibiotics is a total stop of having sex for 7 to 10 days, so that the disease is not passed back and forth between partners.

Chlamydia is often treated with the antibiotic Zithromax. In most cases this method of treatment has proven to be one hundred percent effective. Levofloxacin and ofloxacin are also prescribed for this infection but less frequently.

If the doctor prescribed doxycycline and ciprofloxacin for chlamydia can you take both or should you choose one?

It sounds like your doctor is treating you for chlamydia with doxycycline, and against the possibility of undetected gonorrhea with ciprofloxacin. However, Cipro is no longer recommended for treatment of gonorrhea in 2011 as I'm typing this answer. Call your doctor to find out what was intended with the two medications. There may be some other explanation specific to your situation. If the doctor was trying to cover gonorrhea, ask him or her to choose a medication from the current CDC treatment recommendations.
