Type 1 diabetes cannot be cured but it can be treated. Your question is how? For the best care you should see an endocrinologist, they are the doctors that normally specializes in diabetes. The endo in turn works with a diabetes educator. The diabetes educator will adjust your diet, and make insulin adjustments.

As a type 1 you will need to take insulin to control your diabetes. Your insulin will be dependent on the number of carbohydrates that you eat at each meal. As a type 1 you no longer have a functioning pancreas. Your pancreas is what produces the insulin that balances the carbohydrates (sugar) that you consume. Without your body producing the insulin, you need to take insulin. Unfortunately insulin must be taken by injection. You will also need to take another type of insulin that is considered a long acting insulin. The long acting insulin works on the sugar that is produced by stress, infection, and normal daily hormonal fluctuations. This insulin works to keep your normal body fluctuations under control and needs to be taken in most cases once every 24 hours or once every 12 hours.

This may seem overwhelming, but once you have seen the right doctor and educator it will make more sense. There are definitely a lot of adjustments that will need to take place in your lifestyle, but you will find that once you see how your body reacts to the foods that you eat (which each diabetic reacts differently so much experimentation will be needed) and therefore you will then figure out how much insulin you need for each type of carb your consuming you will see that you can enjoy a long and happy life.

Type 1 diabetes treatment?

Diabetes type 1 is an onset that has nothing to do with your diet or lifestyle. If you have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, it solely means that your body can’t produce insulin. You’ll need to take insulin to help your body use the sugar in your blood; other treatments may help you control other symptoms of type 1 diabetes. A new oral medicine may be on the horizon for people with type 1 diabetes, Sotagliflozin (Zynquista) is awaiting Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

Which type of diabetes begins in childhood or adolescence?

The first type of diabetes, Type 1 diabetes (formerly called juvenile diabetes), is usually first recognized in children or adolescents and is generally not preventable. In this type of diabetes, the pancreas stops producing insulin or produces very little. This is the most serious type and requires daily insulin treatment for life to be sustained. About 10% of people with diabetes have this type.

Is type 1 diabetes easier or harder to treat than type 2 diabetes?

Though it is difficult to say if either one is easier or harder than the other, type 1 and type 2 diabetes often differ based treatment. Type 1 diabetes can be treated with insulin replacement therapy and in extreme cases, pancreas transplants and islet cell transplants. Type 2 diabetes can be treated with lifestyle changes, increase of exercise, medication, insulin replacement and some surgery. With this information I would say type 2 diabetes is easier to treat.
