Joules are usually used by scientists. Energy is energy, so energy (and work) in physics are always measured in joules. However, if you are talking chemistry, often calories are used. The "calories" in food are actually kilocalories. That is, 150 calories worth of chips are in reality 150 kilocalories, which equals 150,000 calories. (kilo means "times 1000")

Here is a clip from wikipedia on calories:

A calorie is a unit of measurement for energy. In most fields, it has been replaced by the joule, the SI unit of energy. However, the kilocalorie or calorie remains in common use for the amount of food energy. The calorie was first defined by Professor Nicolas Clément in 1824 as a kilogram-calorie and this definition entered French and English dictionaries between 1842 and 1867. The calorie was never an SI unit. Modern definitions for calorie fall into two classes: * The small calorie or gram calorieapproximates the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 °C. This is about 4.184 joules. * The large calorie or kilogram calorie approximates the energy needed to increase the temperature of 1 kg of water by 1 °C. This is about 4.184 kJ, and exactly 1000 small calories.

it is something that i do not no lol

BTU's or calories are directly related to the heat capacity of a substance or the heat produced in a reaction. All energy can be expressed in Joules, and for heat the relation is 4.2 Joules per calorie, this is called the mechanical equivalent of heat.

Thermal energy is measured in joules (j).

1 calorie = 4.2 Joules

Answer

In SI, all forms of energy are expressed in joules(J).

The British Thermal Unit (BTU) is an imperial unit for energy, rarely used anywhere outside the United States. The calorie is an obsolete (cgsA) unit despite being used (kilocalories) to some extent in the food industry.

The terms, 'heat energy' and 'heat capacity' are both obsolete, having been replaced with 'internal energy' and 'specific heat capacity' (which is expressed in joules per kilogram kelvin).

Work and heat are both described as energy in transit, and measured in joules.

What unit is used too measure energy?

Energy of heat = Joules (J)

What are the unit used to express heat?

"Heat", as used in physics, refers to heat energy - and the unit for any type of energy is the joule.

What are the units used to measure internal energy and heat?

Heat is also a type of energy, so energy units would be used in both cases. The standard (i.e., international) unit for all sorts of energy is the joule.

How can you use therm in a sentence?

Symbol of therm is thm.Therm is a former British unit for heat.Therm is not used today to measure heat and energy.

What is the unit of measure used for energy?

What is a calorie-?

answer:A calorie is a unit of measure used to describe the energy in food. It is defined as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1kg of water 1 degree Celsius at 1 atmosphere pressure, or 4.184 Joules.Another AnswerA calorie is an obsolescent unit of measurement (cgsA system) used to measure energy; it is not simply used to measure the energy available in food, as implied by the original answer. It was defined as the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius at standard atmospheric pressure. The original answer is not describing a calorie, but a kilocalorie which is 1000 calories.

What is the unit of energy used to measure chemical energy in food is called?

Calorie is the unit used to express chemical energy in food.

What unit of measurement is used for heat?

Heat is a form of energy and so the appropriate unit is a Joule.

What unit of measure is used to measure earth's heat?

What is the difference between calories used to measure heat and calories used to measure the amount of energy you you get from food?

Those are different types of energy, but energy nonetheless. You can express any type of energy (in the sense that the word "energy" is used in physics) in calores. Please note, however, that the preferred unit is the joule.

What are joules in an energy pyramid?
