Often called a Barber dime after the artist who designed it, these coins were struck at three mints that year. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be a D or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 03/2013:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):
Very worn condition - $4
Moderately worn - $6
Slightly worn - $8
Almost no wear - $60
Uncirculated - $103 to $4,780 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):
Very worn - $4
Moderately worn - $6
Slightly worn - $8
Almost no wear - $63
Uncirculated - $108 to $4,710

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):
Very worn - $4
Moderately worn - $10
Slightly worn - $16
Almost no wear - $86
Uncirculated - $168 to $10,600

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

1934 Penny (no mint mark) in Very Good condition is worth 10 cents up to $4.00 in Uncirculated Condition. If it has a D under the date, circulated ones are worth about 15% more than those without a mint mark. However uncirculated 1934-D cents retail for $10 or more.

1934 is not a rare date for Lincoln cents. In circulated condition, it's worth about 3 cents. Nice uncirculated ones are worth a couple of dollars.
