Great Britain struck several different patterns of 50 Pence coins throughout the years; most of them are worth $1 to $3 in brilliant-uncirculated ("perfect") condition, although proofs - or Silver issues in particular - can be worth considerably more. Like all coins, the value is based on date and condition.

The larger pre-1998 30 mm 50 Pence coins were withdrawn from circulation and demonetised in 1998. So, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they have little or no value.

The smaller 27.3 mm 50 Pence coins are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth 50 Pence.

50 Pence is half of a british pound. As for the coin, it was first the 10 shilling gold coins such as the half-sovereign after the first world war, the half-sovereign stopped circulating widely and was mostly replaced by the 10 shilling note by then. In preparation for the decimalization of the pound in 1971, the 50p coin was made from 1969 to replace the 10 shilling note, the idea was the coin would last much longer in circulation than the 10 shilling note would. The 50p is 75% copper, 25% nickel and is a heptagonal shape. From 1969-1994 it was the original, large size when it was replaced by the current size in 1997. The large-sized 50p coins are no longer legal tender in the UK .

What is the value of all new pence coins?

If they have been circulated, all British "New" Pence coins are worth whatever is indicated on them.

What does the valuable British 2 Pence look like?

Some British 1983 2 Pence coins were minted with the word "NEW" on them. The "NEW" had been dropped from the coins reverse design in 1982. These coins were only issued in some Royal Mint sets. The 1983 error or mule coin would look the same as all other 2 New Pence coins issued from 1971 to 1981, except with the year 1983.

Are British coins minted in 1994 worth anything?

With the exception of the 1994 50 Pence coin which has been withdrawn and demonetised, any British coins minted in 1994 are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth whatever is indicated on them.

What is the value of a copper coloured British 50 Pence coin?

There were no copper 50 Pence coins minted, they are all made from a copper/nickel alloy giving them a silvery appearance. If your coin is copper coloured, it is either very seriously tarnished or somebody has plated it. Modified coins have no collector value.

In which years are British decimal 10 Pence coins valuable?

For every year they have been minted, they have been minted in huge quantities, so they are neither rare nor valuable. The best you might get for an uncirculated Proof FDC coin might be £3 GBP.

Are there any rare British decimal coins?

As a general rule, and other than for the odd error coin, there are no rare British decimal coins. There were many non-circulating coins minted as "Proof FDC" which would have bought by collectors when they were released, but they are not especially rare either.

What is a British 1 Penny coin made from and is it magnetic?

No British coin is magnetic. Coins made from steel can be attracted to a magnet. From 1968 to 2011, the British 10 Pence coin was made from a copper-nickel alloy and therefore have no magnetic properties, copper and nickel both being non-ferrous metals. From late 2011, the British 10 Pence coin is made from nickel plated steel which has some magnetic properties similar to the 1 Penny and 2 Pence coins issued from 1992. The move towards coins made from steel is an effort by many countries to reduce the cost of manufacturing coins. Also, the coins are much more durable, even if the plating is not, and may extend the life expectancy of coins well beyond 50 years.

There was no such thing as a 1962 Canadian six pence. There have been no Canadian coins based on the old British Imperial currency system minted for well over 130 years.

Was there a test mintage of British 2 new pence coins produced from nickel alloy in 1971?

There is no documentary evidence to support 1971 trial mintings. If trial coins were minted, they would never have seen the light of day. I suggest that trial mintings in 1971 did not happen for three reasons - 1. The 2 New Pence coins were scheduled for release in February 1971 and had already been minted during the previous 24 months. 2. A nickel alloy would be an expensive way to make 2 Pence coins. 3. The trial mintings had already been done in 1963.

Is my 2p worth anything?

Your 2p ("two pee") or two pence coin is worth...two pence in the United Kingdom (roughly about three U.S. cents). The two-pence coin was originally minted from bronze; however, since 1992 it has been minted from copper. One- and two-pence coins can be used in combination only up to 20 pence.
