The value of a misprinted coin can vary significantly depending on the type of misprint, rarity, and condition of the coin. In some cases, it can be worth more to collectors due to its uniqueness, while in other cases it may not affect the value significantly. It's best to have a coin expert or appraiser evaluate the coin to determine its worth accurately.

A "misprinted*" penny is called an "Error" coin. Since there is any number of error types (e.g. rotated dies, off center, die-cracks, etc.) there is no resource or publication that will provide a value on this type of coin. In addition, there is the grade of the coin to take into account.

To answer your question - the value would be whatever someone would be willing to pay for the coin. There are a number of "Error Collectors" out there and depending on the type of error and condition of the coin, you may find someone willing to pay quite a bit. A good resource would be the on-line auction sites (Ebay, etc.) and look at other listing for similar types of errors. This might give you an idea of value.

Hope this was helpful.

(*) To explain, coins are said to be minted or struck. Printing usually refers to creating an image with paper and ink, or similar processes in electronics.

Current dollar coins are brass, not gold. Also, coins are struck or minted, not printed. Dollar bills are printed.

Please post a new question with a more complete description of the error.

The amount that a misprinted coin is worth depends on several factors. Some important factors include how severe the error is, the type of coin it is printed on, its age, and where it is from. Partial strikes and blanks are usually worth more since they are highly sought after.

If a sheet fails to enter the printing press, the inked plates will transfer their image to the impression cylinder. The next 6 or 7 sheets will receive the impression from the cylinder while the other side of the note is being printed. The result is an offset printing in reverse on the already printed side. Approximate value range: $50 - $300.

You may also find similar pieces on Ebay.com for comparison.

You might take it by a local coin shop for a first hand opinion ( see the related links for where to find a dealer.)

It all depends on the denomination, date, and condition. Sometimes misprinted currency can be worth very little but sometimes it is worth a lot.
