Duane Armstrong is a California artist and lives in Boulder Creek, California (as of 2007). I have a large collection of his oil paintings and his limited edition prints. The second answer down from this states correctly that he signs his art work as D. Armstrong, but the answer about a ladybug being in ALL his paintings is false. He started drawing a ladybug in A FEW of his Fields of Grass series, so some of those have a ladybug, while others do not. An interesting story that Duane told me is that a woman bought one of his FIELDS in a Monterey galley ... that panting did not have the ladybug and when she saw it in another one, she wanted one, too, so asked the dealer if Duane could draw one in for her. I can't recall if he did or not, but being an agreeable artist and a nice man, he most likely did. I don't know the answer to your question; in fact, I was searching for values of his paintings (I think his name is Dwayne). I have some small silkscreen prints that have original signatures on the back. I worked in an office back in the late 60's that had three or four of his paintings -- all very large abstracts with vibrant colors. Later he did landscape type paintings. I remember seeing one of his works as a premium in the old S&H or Blue Chip trading stamp catalog. The office was in Campbell, California, and I got the impression that he was in that vicinity (San Jose). Yes, Duane Armstrong signs his name as D. Armstrong. You can tell his paintings by looking for a ladybug. He put one in everyone of his paintings. I have an original of "Tree House" and I was wondering how much it is worth in today's market.
Several oil paintings and lithos (prints) are currently on sale. While I cannot give you the exact value of your painting, I can help you get a good estimate.
The lithos are selling for about $300 each, but oils are going for much more.
Your painting is an oil and signed, yes?
One company is selling a 1968 oil titled "Buckboard" for $2,500 and makes the following claim "Similar paintings by Duane Armstrong sell in major galleries for over $40,000!" Please, take this with a grain of salt, this person IS trying to get you to pay $2,500 after all.
Another signed 60's oil by Armstrong from a different seller is going for $3,500.
Art America is selling an original signed oil for $2000 while claiming the "retail" is $30,000.
Please keep in mind that what a gallery charges the punters and what you are going to get can often be drastically different. So, while the hype says this: "You'll find that most of his works sell for tens of thousands of dollars, some for more than $70K!" The reality says this: $2,000 - 4,000.
There could be a few reasons for this price discrepancy, either the galleries are trying to scam you (imagine that!) or the work of this artist has fallen in popularity and thus in price, from his peak of tens of thousands down to today's prices just in the thousands.
No matter what, if you're serious about selling this do it at auction. Find a reputable auction house and sell through them, expect two to four grand and be happy as a June bug if it goes for more.
It is not possible to assess the value of a work of art until it is up for sale. The best option is to take the painting to a qualified art assessor.
2 dollars and thirty-seven cents
His work in the 1970s is considered the best to invest in, and some of those canvasses have sold for $400-$750. Works as recent as yours are not going to command as much, but would be worth holding on to. After his death, the price may go up.

Lambson paintings sell from between$10,000 and $25,000, depending on age, condition, and size.
Mono is short for monochromatic, which means a painting done entirely in the tints and shades of only one color.
