On the surface we are in fact, in the atmosphere, we call this layer the Troposphere.

the atmosphere extends to around 80 miles up, at that altitude the air is extremely thin, essentially you get to space about 80 miles up, orbits tend to be a bit higher simply because there are fewer air molecules and less drag.

The "effective volume" of the Earth's atmosphere is about 4.2 billion cubic kilometers. This figure is the surface area of the Earth (509 million square kilometers) times the "effective thickness" of the atmosphere (8.2 kilometers, or about 27,000 ft). The effective thickness and volume are what the thickness and volume of the atmosphere would be if the entire atmosphere were at sea level conditions.

The actual volume of the atmosphere is considerably greater than its effective volume, as its pressure and density drop with increasing altitude. If we adopt the "Karman Limit" of 100 km elevation as the boundary between earth and space, the volume of the atmosphere would be 100 times 509 million or about 51 billion cubic kilometers. However, the Karman Limit is a non-physical and rather arbitrary boundary.

It is not known how much air is in the earth because near impossible to measure the amount of air laced within the earth's terrain due to the size of the earth and the depth of the terrain.

There are surely small amounts of air between dirt particles as well as large pockets deep beneath the earth in undiscovered caverns but this is not measurable.

We don't even know exactly what is in the core of the earth, let alone the exact amount of air within the ground.

The outer layer of the Earth's atmosphere, the Exosphere, theoretically extends to 120,000 miles, or 190,000 kilometers, after which the solar wind provides enough force for the gases at this altitude to obtain an escape velocity and leave Earth.

Earth's atmosphere, the layer of gases enveloping the planet, is about 300 miles long. It was formed by the process of planetary degassing and is held in place by gravity.
