Wedding Planners are generaly paid a "production fee". This fee encompases their entire scope of work relating to the wedding production, including pre-arrangments and on-site event management. Some planners reduce this fee and take a commission from the vendors at the wedding.
Others will simply charge by the hour, for the consultations, arrangements and on-site event management.
Some wedding planners will charge for all of the above, i.e. hours of consultation, production fee and vendor commissions.
Keep in mind that planning and producing a wedding is usually many hours of work beforehand, and a full day's stressful work on the wedding day itself.
