For older variants (A2) it's about 7.18lbs unloaded and 8.8lbs or so loaded. Newer variants are heavier (A4), and any variant's weight can rise when accessories are added (grip pod, flash-light, PEQ, etc.).
The weight of the most modern M16 model (the M16A2) is just a little bit less than 8 pounds unloaded, and loaded wieghs just under 9 pounds.

roughly one pound, when loaded
It depends on which rifle. <><><> Agree with above. There is no one "assault rifle", and no one weight. The German StG44 weighed 10.2 lbs, the M16 weighs 7.1 lbs.

5.56mm packs a punch. It's stopping power is good, but a gun like the MG3 can easily outkill an M16 with its 7.62mm rounds.
In a way the M16 is a machine gun, but it can also do three round burst and semi automatic. civilians are not allowed to have automatic m16s unless you have an automatic weapons permit, but you can have a semi automatic M16. (an AR-15 is almost like an M16 and much cheaper if you're looking to buy one.)
A M16 cost about $2000.00
The bullet energy from the AK 47 is higher than a round from an M16 or M4. That doesn't mean it is necessarily a better weapon. The AK 47 is very reliable but the M16 is much more accurate.
No such weapon made by Colt
