Answer
I'm not sure what History Books you have been reading, but the second World War started in 1939 and ended in 1945.
The Thirty Year's War was the longest continuous war. It took place from 1618-1648 lasting a total of 30 years. The Hundred Year's War, however spanned from 1337-1453 lasting a total of 116 years although the war was not continuous. It was only a series of battles that stretched over the 116 years.
The Afghan war was the longest in American history with constant conflict. The Third Punic War is-technically-the longest war in human history, lasting 2134 years.Another View:The question was not about American history, but human history. It is nonsense to talk of the Carthaginians being 'technically' still at war today, when they were sold off into slavery at the end of the Third Punic War in 146 BCE and ceased to exist as a city, country or people. We do have The Hundred Years War 1337 to 1453 CE between England and France. In earlier times we had the Persian Wars 499-449 BCE.

No, the Afghanistan is officially the longest war in American history. It began October 7, 2001 and has not ended yet. Before that, the Vietnam war was the longest war in American history. It lasted 103 months. World War I lasted 4 years and about three months (28 July 1914 - 11 November 1918). Others claim the Korean War is the longest because it never officially ended, we only signed a cease fire with them.
The US has been fighting in Afghanistan longer it was fighting in Vietnam. It is the longest war in US history.
