Answer
After working with search engines and the results that they provide for searchers for many years now, I would have to say that as Google is the most popular search engine, it is consistently manipulated by website owners in order for them to acheive better ranks within it. This has forced Google to add a lot of weight to backlinks and the age of the domain name when placing websites in order therefore delivering very old or very commercial websites to the end user. This is of course only my point of view, the services and tools that Google supplies for searchers etc and the innovation that it shows in its products are second to none and a real feat of programming and creativity which more than makes up for the somewhat dated results that it often delivers.
