Tobacco is an agricultural product processed from the leaves of plants in the genus Nicotinia. It can be consumed, used as an organic pesticide and, in the form of nicotine it is used in some medicines too. In consumption it most frequently appears in the forms of cigarettes, smokeless products like chewing, snuffing, or snus. So, I conclude that people could not exist without tobacco. With tobacco especially with cigarettes, cigars and other smoking products people can relax with their friends after a very hard working day.

First of all, there are tobacco leaves. Sometimes there are multiple types of tobacco leaves in order to achieve the desired flavor. Sometimes sugars are added so they can make a cheaper blend of tobacco taste like a more expensive blend. Depending on the exact usage for the tobacco in question, it may be allowed to ferment with fungus. Snuff and dip usually contain fermented tobacco. Since tobacco may become dry from processing, they may add water to it. If the color is off, they may add B-vitamins to impart more of a golden color. But these are just the natural things that are added.

Tar and nicotine are already in tobacco leaves.

They may also add a chemical similar to rocket fuel to help the cigarettes to burn hotter to release more nicotine. They may also add ammonia to help open up the lungs. So these two chemicals help get more nicotine into the body.

Some things are in there accidentally or incidentally as a part of the growing or processing. For instance, you are likely to find traces of pesticides in tobacco products, sometimes even illegal ones. Tobacco is a plant, and plants are targets for insects. There might also be traces of insect parts in tobacco products. Plus, it is possible that there may be rats and mice where tobacco is stored, so there could be traces of rodent hair, rodent droppings, and rat poison. Plus, tobacco might be grown in contaminated soil, perhaps even using contaminated water or fertilizer. So tobacco may contain traces of heavy metals.

There are also what is created as you smoke it. Poisons such as carbon monoxide and others come from burning the tobacco.

Historically, additive have been added to tobacco products for at least as long as filters were required on cigarettes. The filters, while removing some of the tar and particulates (soot), seemed to also affect the flavor and potency. So companies had added various chemicals to make it taste better and make more of the nicotine available for the body. They may even add chemicals to affect the color of the smoke. The reason to want to color the smoke is for psychological reasons. The first food anyone knows is milk. So white smoke (as well as cigarettes being white, and filters often being the color of nipples) could make the mind associate smoking with being fed as a baby.

Here are a good number of chemicals that may be found in cigarettes:

  • Ammonia: Household cleaner
  • Angelica root extract: Known carcinogen in animals
  • Arsenic: Used in rat poisons
  • Benzene: Used in making dyes, gasoline, synthetic rubber
  • Butane: Gas; used in lighter fluid
  • Carbon monoxide: Poisonous gas
  • Cadmium: Toxic heavy metal used in batteries
  • Cyanide: Deadly poison
  • DDT: A banned insecticide
  • Ethyl Furoate: Causes liver damage in animals
  • Lead: Poisonous in high doses
  • Formaldehiyde: Used to preserve dead specimens
  • Methoprene: Insecticide
  • Megastigmatrienone: Chemical naturally found in grapefruit juice
  • Maltitol: Sweetener for diabetics
  • Methyl isocyanate: Its accidental release killed 2000 people in Bhopal, India in 1984
  • Naphthalene: Flammable chemical once used in mothballs
  • Niacinamide - Vitamin B3
  • Nitrosamines
  • Polonium: Cancer-causing radioactive element
  • Water

A single puff of tobacco contains more than 4000 chemicals and 40 of them are highly dangerous and can cause death and serious forms of lung cancer. For this reason, tobacco has been banned on all domestic flights in the U.S. The reason many people crave tobacco is because tobacco contains nicotine. Nicotine is the substance that increases the craving for tobacco. It speeds up the heart rate which increases the craving for tobacco. People who use tobacco daily create a tolerance for tobacco. Tolerance is when the body develops a need for larger and larger doses of drugs to feel the same effect. Tobacco also contains tarwhich is a black substance which coats the linings of the lung. Tar creates a disease called emphysema which destroys the lungs. In addition, tobacco contains carbon monoxide which is a colorless, oderless, poisonous gas.

All things considered, it is important to avoid tobacco. Many people think that smokeless tobacco is a good alternative. But it is not true. In fact, smokeless tobacco contains more nicotine and tar than cigarettes do.

Pregnant mothers should not use tobacco for risks of birth defects in their child. If they do, they risk their child being a smoke addict.

The most dangerous type of smoke is sidestream smoke which is the smoke that directly comes from the burning end of a cigar. This is the most dangerous because the smoke has not been filtered like mainstream smoke is. Mainstream smoke is the smoke that smokers inhale and exhale. This smoke has been filtered and processed through your body. Another type of smoke is second-hand smoke which is air that has been contaminated by cigars. People who breathe in this air are known as passive smokers. Passive smokers are non-smokers who breathe in second-hand smoke.

Overall, it is important to stay away from tobacco as it contributes to lung cancer and stomach ulcers and even death.

DON'T TRY TOBACCO.

Generally, the difference is that it starts with a different variety of tobacco, and it is prepared differently. Pipe tobacco may be a bit more natural compared to how cigarette tobacco is prepared. Pipe tobacco could be used in cigarettes, but due to the cut, you may have a harder time keeping it lit. Compared to cigarettes, pipe tobacco has more of a range of flavors, since cigarettes only come in regular and menthol.
