Killing innocents is not part of Islam
Suicide bombers are not really part of any Islamic tradition. In Islam no innocent people should be killed (which suicide bombers often do) and suicide is prohibited. Of course, sacrificing life in battle was always considered the ultimate sacrifice but it was not sought and people who fought for the right cause and didn't die would also have the same reward as those who happened to die. The seventy virgins and similar "quantitative rewards" were probably sometimes used to illustrate the big reward to make it attractive. Later, some half educated preachers may have understood it literally and now spread this misinformation. Fact is, in Islam, nobody knows what anybody's reward will be. It is just believed that the good will be rewarded and the bad will be punished by the ultimate Judge, the One and Only God. Suicide bombers are a product of a political reality and not really religion. In true Islam, battle and life loss were to be minimized and innocents were meant to be spared.
ANSWER 2
This 70 virgin thing is very much exaggerated usually by the anti Islam brigade. No one really knows what is in paradise but we are told that no one can conceive or even imagine it. As the previous poster has said it could be a metaphorical description rather than something that's meant to appeal to the carnal nature of man.
