The origin of man is from our Creator, the Most High followed by woman. He created him from dust, in His image, and pulled Eve from his side as a suitable companion. They were to be fruitful and multiply to further populate the earth.
I like to think of myself as a rational person and therefore almost always accept the scientific consensus unless I know a good reason to doubt that consensus. Having read widely on the subject of evolution, inlcuding Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, I have no doubt that modern man evolved through a number of stages from an ancient ancestor common to ourselves and the chimpanzee.
I realise that scientists are not yet certain which of the intermediate hominid species are our direct ancestors and which ones were 'cousins' that eventually became extinct. I know that it is considered certain that our immediate ancestor is Homo erectus. With somewhat less certainty, homo habilis is probably the ancestor from which Homo erectus evolved. Various earlier hominid species are candidates for direct ancestry, but even if the present consensus on this is wrong, it makes little difference to the overall truth of evolution as the origin of man.

I believe that God created us, as tradition states (Genesis ch.1-2). The two most widely-known beliefs in this matter are the tradition of Creation, and the theory of Evolution. According to the theory of Evolution, life developed by random processes, especially mutations.
The narrative of Divine Creation, which is contained in Genesis ch.1 and 2, states that God created the universe. This teaches us that God exists, that our lives and the world are not random, and that the created things may be assumed to contain vast wisdom in their beautiful and purposeful design. (In recent decades, this wisdom has indeed been partially revealed, through increasingly powerful microscopes.)Evolution through random mutations, on the other hand, may be understood as implying that life is an accident, that perceived beauty and wisdom are ultimately purposeless, and that our instinctive yearning for the Eternal is just an electrical impulse in our brain.
