Jobs with a Degree in CommunicationsHere are some suggestions:
  • I am going for a degree in Communications with my major being Advertising. I know their are many jobs for that degree, like media, journalism (spelling?) Advertising, creating and presenting speeches. Any job that communicates through Ads, voice, pictures, or writings. I think it's a great degree.
  • I graduated in July, 2004 with a BA in Communications from the University of Colorado. Just 3 weeks later, I obtained a Management Trainee position with a reputable retail store. The pay is great and the work is both fun and challenging. As soon as I complete the program, which is designed to last 6 months to a year, I will be able to move to another store location and become that store manager. The benefits are unbelievable and there is a lot of earning potential.
  • If you have a communications degree with a major in advertising, you sound well suited to a public relations position. You will have interaction with clients on a regular basis, you will have frequent opportunities to use your writing ability and other communications skills, and you will get many great perks and freebies associated with being the client's voice in the media. There is often travel involved, too. Advertising is a great field. I'm a copywriter, and I love it.
  • It depends on what you mean by "communication". I have a masters degree in Communication but my focus is Interpersonal Communication which is very different from journalism and advertising. With that degree (even just my B.A.) I was eligible to do training (going into organizations and helping them figure out how their communication is and is NOT working for them and helping tweak it), with a teaching certification I could teach at a high school (they are now requiring a communication course), there are research positions, image consultations, etc. I'm not as sure what you can do with a Bachelors as I am with a Master's. I think it just really depends on which part of Comm you find interesting.

Well, I hate to be negative BUT from my experience, mostly NOTHING-depending on the school you attended. It really comes down to the type of INTERNSHIP you are able to get- as that is the main way to gain experience in the field. You pretty much have to start by working for NOTHING. If you are young and/or have little life responsibilities (i.e children,rent,f/t job etc) This is a great opportunity to get into a good company. If you're really good, you can also start doing some freelance work to build your portfolio & contacts. BUT as far as getting a job outside of the field,my Associates has done absolutely nothing to sell my resume & give me a better salary. None whatsoever. BA's are different though. At least here in NYC, many companies will hire you if you have a BA in ANYTHING & will train you. It can also depend (as I have learned the hard & expensive way) on the school you attended. I got my Associates in Visual Communications(aka Graphic Design) from Katherine Gibbs. Recruiters said "You could start at 40K w/ this degree..." NOT! Come to find out more than half way through the program, that my credits were not TRANSFERABLE to most 4 year city/state colleges, if I chose to grow in my field by pursuing a BA or Master's. If you went to a vocational school, like Katherine Gibbs or an Online University, you may find yourself having to start from SCRATCH if you want to continue your education. AND in the Visual Arts field, continued education is crucial, as the technology is always changing. An AAS is worthless unless you are planning to continue your education. My advice to anyone thinking of going the my route? DON'T DO IT!!! Unless you are able to work for free for as long as it takes to get the experience you need & it is your PASSION in life, it may prove to be a very expensive dead end.

You can not apply for a job in the High School range, with a bachelors degree. But you can apply for an Art assistant job or subbing job in any public grade school. You can only apply at certain Catholic Grade schools. For any more information visit- (http://jobs.com). But this all depends if your degree is a Bachelors or a Masters.
