What did Barack Obama do as a young boy?

President Obama was born in Hawaii, to an African father and an American mother. After his father abandoned the family, his mom re-married, and since his step-dad was from Indonesia (and his mom was studying anthropology), the family moved to Indonesia for a few years. Barack attended an American school, popular with the children of diplomats. In his writings, he recalls that his step-dad taught him a number of interesting things about nature, about how certain animals were raised, etc. He recalls that living in a foreign country was also exciting and he learned the local language and customs easily. He also was an inquisitive child and while he enjoyed playing with his friends (as most kids do), he also enjoyed having his mother read to him or tell him about some of the things she was studying.

Most available evidence says he did not really begin working full-time till he graduated from college. But he seems to have been happy when he was able to return to Hawaii in 1971 to live with his grandparents and finish his middle and high school education.
